A Quick Guide To The Best Beaches In Barbados

Royal Westmoreland

Aside from rum, one of the reasons people can’t stop coming back to Barbados is its stunning beaches.

The island is home to a number of great beaches, and every visitor will have their own favourite, but we’re going to take a look at some of the ones we consider to be the best.

The beaches of Barbados are very varied, and generally speaking, the north coast is considered to be more rugged, with lots of little coves and spectacular views, and the east is similarly choppy, which is great for watersports and surfing.

On the other hand, the south and west coasts are much calmer and ideal for winding down and dipping your toes in the ocean.

Mullins Beach

One of the most popular beaches on the west coast (also known as the ‘platinum’ coast), Mullins is a busy beach, popular with both locals and tourists.

Make sure to check out the Mullins Beach Bar and Restaurant which makes a great spot to see the sun set over this gorgeous beach.

Miami Beach

Whether you want to chill out and take in some rays or get involved in some watersports, Miami Beach is a perfect blend of relaxation and activity.

At the beach’s eastern end, you’ll find waves which are perfect for surfing and boogie boarding, while the west is a lot calmer, with shallow waters which are ideal for kids.

Make sure to check out the Mr Delicious Snack Bar, a converted Mercedes bus which serves up a range of food and refreshments.

Browne’s Beach

One of the widest beaches in Barbados, Browne’s is a calm beach which is ideal for swimming and snorkelling.

It’s also one of the beaches where you’ll find more of the locals and ‘in the know’ tourists.

For a quieter time, head to the southern end of this beach, overlooking the beautiful Carlisle Bay.

Welches Beach

Despite being a great beach, Welches is relatively quiet most of the time and is situated on the south coast of the island.

Ideal for those who are holidaying with young families, but do bear in mind that there isn’t much shade.

Bathsheba

One of the more well-known beaches in Barbados, Bathsheba is also a scenic fishing village which is worth walking round in its own right.

Found on the rugged east coast, Bathsheba is an excellent place to surf, stroll down the beach, or simply just take in the views.

No visit is complete without a dip in the invigorating Bathsheba Pools, naturally carved out of the coral reef.

Rockley (Accra) Beach

Rockley Beach, (also known as Accra Beach) is found in the south of Barbados and is a favourite for sunbather and swimmers.

There are also some more lively waves to be found if you want to do a bit of boogie boarding or light surfing, but they’re not too choppy for beginners.

Further to the east, you’ll find the Barbados Boardwalk which runs for about a kilometre to Bridgetown.

Freyer’s Well Bay

One of Barbados’ true hidden gems, Freyer’s Well Bay is situated in the north of the island, and because it’s so secluded, it’s the perfect place to come for some peace and quiet, with calm waters to match.

Just make sure you know where you’re going though, it’s so well hidden away that you might struggle to find it!

Brandon’s Beach

Situated within Bridgetown, Brandon’s Beach is very popular with tourists due to its proximity to the main resorts as well as the port.

Also, make sure to check out the beachfront bar and eatery Weisers on the Bay for some lunch and drinks.

Reeds Bay

For a quiet and relaxing beach, head to Reeds Bay on the west coast, ideal for a romantic picnic or walk.

Silver Sands Beach

Known for its excellent kitesurfing and windsurfing, Silver Sands is great to visit whether you’re taking on the waves or just watching from afar.

Crane Beach

Finally, one of the best beaches in Barbados, Crane Beach has gorgeous pinkish sands and gentle waves, perfect for water sports such as boogie boarding and snorkelling, relaxing and sunbathing, or even cliff diving!

It was also named one of the 100 best beaches in the world by CNN.

As you can see, Barbados is packed with great beaches, and this is only the beginning! So why not book your own luxury getaway to Barbados here at Royal Westmoreland and come and explore the gorgeous beaches on offer for yourself?
