Ten Reasons to Honeymoon in Barbados
Barbados is a truly unforgettable destination, and while it’s perfect for all types of holidaymakers, it has struck a particular chord with loved up couples (and honeymooners in particular) as one of the romantic places on the planet.
Whether it’s the gorgeous sunsets, the palm tree-lined beaches or the luxury resorts, there are plenty of reasons why Barbados should be top of your list for your honeymoon, and here are just ten of them.
Secluded Beaches
While it’s undoubtedly a popular destination, you won’t have to go far to find a bit of peace and quiet in Barbados with so many beaches to choose from.
Most holidaymakers will head to the calmer shores of the west coast, but if you really want to spend a bit of quality time together, we recommend heading out to the east coast.
While the water at many of these beaches is too rough to swim in, and there aren’t any kiosks or amenities, this is exactly why they’re so quiet and great for couples!
Romantic Restaurants
The island is also home to some great restaurants to enjoy a candlelit dinner in. For example, in classy Holetown, you’ll find Tides, a seafood restaurant with an amazing ‘Tree House’ terrace, where trees grow up through the floor to support the roof.
A little further down the road, you’ll find The Cliff, one of the fanciest restaurants in Barbados, with great views over the sea lit by torches at night.
A Wedding & Honeymoon in One?
Why not go one step further and actually tie the knot here in Barbados as well as having your honeymoon here?
The island is the perfect setting for a wedding, and you can choose to say “I do” either on the beach, in the lush tropical gardens further inland, in one of the grand plantation houses or even out at sea on a boat cruise!
Many people are put off destination weddings by the legalities of getting married abroad, but as you can see in this post from Barbados.org, the red tape is minimal, and there’s no waiting period or minimum stay before you can be granted a marriage license.
Trips to Other Islands
One of the great things about the Caribbean is that you can easily hop from one island to another, with each island having a very unique feel.
Inter-island planes offer day trips and overnight stays to other islands such as Dominica with its spectacular waterfalls, and the sulphur springs and mountains of St. Lucia.
Adventurous Excursions
If you’re the type of couple who’d rather get out there and explore the island rather than relaxing by the pool, there are plenty of romantic tours and excursions on offer whether it’s exploring some of the island’s historic towns and villages, sailing aboard a catamaran, or even taking an off road dune buggy tour!
Tour operators in the area include Ted’s Tours, Calabaza Sailing Cruises and Island Safari.
The Weather
It goes without saying that the weather in Barbados is one of the main reasons so many couples choose to honeymoon here, especially to those who usually live in much colder climates!
The year-round warm weather is perfect for relaxing on the beach with a rum punch in hand, with over 3,000 hours of sun a year, with prevailing northeast trade winds ensuring that it never gets unbearably hot.
If It’s Good Enough for Them…
Barbados is also a favourite honeymoon spot for the rich and famous, so if it’s good enough for them, then it’s good enough for you!
Stars such as Barbara Streisand and husband James Brolin, Tiger Woods and Westlife’s Kian Egan have chosen the island as their honeymoon destination, and it’s easy to see why.
Water Sports
Whether it’s your thing or not, Barbados has tonnes of opportunities to give water sports a try, and there’s something for every couple, from the high-octane to the more relaxed.
The clear waters of the Caribbean are perfect for snorkelling, wakeboarding, water skiing, scuba diving and stand-up paddleboarding, all of which you can try without any previous experience!
Spa Days
Getting pampered is a big part of your honeymoon, and there are loads of great spas where you can really relax and feel well looked after.
What better way to chill out and relax than a nice massage under the sun while the waves gently lap against the coast?
Idyllic Resorts
Of course, we couldn’t mention reasons to honeymoon here in Barbados without giving ourselves a mention here at Royal Westmoreland!
Our estate is nice and secluded within 750 acres of beautiful gardens in the parish of St. James, meaning it’s perfectly calm and relaxed, but also within walking distance of some of the best beaches the island has to offer, perfect for a romantic couple’s retreat!
